Burncoose Nurseries and Garden

Burncoose Nurseries and Garden

This 30-acre woodland gardens and nursery boasts award-winning displays and a smorgasbord of flowering features to captivate garden-enthusiasts and horticultural amateurs alike. Burncoose is a horticultural hotspot with a reputation that attracts green-fingered keenies from all over the globe, but also one that has flaunted its horticultural talents nationwide. Visitors to Cornwall may recollect Burncoose's gold medal displays from Chelsea, Hampton Court and many other nationwide flower shows. Perched on a hilltop, Burncoose doesn't benefit from Cornwall's microclimates responsible for the flourishing valley gardens, yet it is still home to one of the most diverse ranges of plants in the region. Its sprawling woodland gardens and old flower garden are rich with the likes of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, as well as over 20 species of bamboo. There are hard paths on which to navigate the extensive offerings of garden, and these were once used for a pony and trap to take the owners round the garden. This seems an unnecessary mode of transport when Burncoose is such a wonderful garden for walkers. Its vast acreage is packed with prolific blooms all year round and you can take self-guided wanders to appreciate the beauty of the successive seasons. It's a dog friendly environment, so don your walking boots, pop the dog on a lead and stretch your legs whatever the time of year. On a Spring ramble witness the drifts of snowdrops, primroses and wild violets, and later the daffodils and blankets of nodding bluebells. On a Summer wander it is the hydrangeas that spread their purple-blues and swamp the fading blooms of spring. Discerning gardeners should wrap-up and take a wet and windy Autumn amble, when more subtle colours and hardy specimens still leave much to be discovered and explored. The nursery at Burncoose stocks over 3500 varieties of ornamental trees shrubs and other herbaceous plants. Specialities include camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons, as well as many unusual and rare plants for your garden and conservatory.
